A couple nights ago Justin came over with his guitar. Said he needed some lyrics, would I be willing to help him out? I'm not much of a lyric writer--my poetry is written to be performed like a monologue, not in song, but I said I would in echange of a recorded song so I can then, in turn, make a music video. Anyway, today I've just been moping about the place, out of my wit with exhaustion and out of energy on account of a bad stomach, so after I tried to take a nap I sat down at the ol' Lappy and punched this little diddy out:
Rain Waltz
When’s it gonna rain, when, when,
When’s it gonna pour?
Wash away the streets,
Flooding out these memories
I’ll send them like rafts out on the Mississippi curb.
It’s been a long drought
And I forget the colors laced inside a rainbow.
One-hundred ten days of sunshine,
The exposure on the lens is turning white
And the water in the fishbowl’s getting low.
Just wait for the skies to open up
And shed some tears of joy on us.
It’ll be a party come that day.
We’ll dress up in our formals
And you’ll walk out with your hair down,
I’ll twirl you in the rainfall
And dip you in the puddles.
We’ll be waltzing down the rivers
And be singing and laughing and smiling in the grey.
Oh, when is it going to rain? When, when?
When is it going to pour? Mhmm…
Wash away the streets
Flooding out these memories
I’ll send them out like rafts on the Mississippi curb.
It’s been a long drought
One-hundred ten days and counting.
Hey, Mr. Sun and Clear-Sky take a break.
We want to go dancing.
We’ll dress up in our formals
And you’ll walk out with your hair down,
I’ll twirl you in the rainfall
And dip you in the puddles.
We’ll be waltzing down the rivers
Singing and laughing and smiling in the grey…
We’ll be dripping in our black tie
And pearls
Soaking and frizzing our hair,
Yours in curls.
Yeah, we’ll celebrate with music
And Champaign.
We’ll be waltzing down rivers,
Singing and laughing and smiling
In the rain.
