On February 1, 2007 about 6:30 p.m., little Mackenzie Lee was born. 7 lbs, 3 ounces, 19.5 inches long with a full head of hair and a full pumpkin face. She's absolutely perfect.
It was mom (Grandma Chotchkee) who called me. I was at my internship and was just walking back into the office from a photo assignment when my cell rang.
"Guess what? Your sister's in labor!"
I was so ecstatic, I began to cry right then and there--Mackenzie was coming into our lives today!
I don't know how I got through the rest of the morning. Her water broke at 10 a.m.; I was on my way to work. I wrote the photo captions, did the editing, wrote the sports scores, escaped for lunch at 1 and by chance ended up at a sandwich place across the street from the hospital. So I went over. And then the waiting game began.
Kenzie, we waited forever for you! I don't feel like we got to spend much time with you at all; some brief moments captured with a few photographs, but life intervenes you know and you didn't pick the best day to come. Mom had to stop by a broker's house, I was on duty at school...we left, sadly, at 8. And I can't wait to see you tomorrow!
