The Castle Arroyo:
Letter from Driver
The weather outside is stagnant and gray,
But the past week or so within the stone
Has been a pleasant, sunny day.
Out there it is dismal and exhausting,
Yet by some power,
In here,
We have learned to laugh.
A great spell has been cast upon this place,
Alas our tongues speak the same,
Ears hear alike,
And voices carry pleasantly
From room
To kitchen table
Where we dine in
Peace and harmony.
Perhaps one day the spell will expire,
Lift and return us to our previous state of--
Well, never mind.
For the time, we are eased and at peace.
I, the Queen's Driver,
Have spent the morning with her
Deciding on bed spreads
And choosing curtain rods.
Yesterday we played cards.
She hugged my Sheep,
Kissed his head,
And told the Lady
'I'll miss you.'
I know not the change--
The How,
Or Why it happened.
I only know it's warm again,
We smile again,
We laugh again.
And all the folly and troubles
Upon us,
Can be turned into jest
And, for a moment,
Forgotten.
