Exciting happenings! I went to my first political rally today! President Clinton came to ASU today! Unfortunately I was a good student and went to class, therefor missing the opportunity to get a good spot in the crowd so when I did arrive, I couldn't even see him speak, but I saw him get out of his car and walk into a building and his legs from about 100 feet away. Anyway, his speech was wonderful; one thing I've always admired about Clinton is his ability to connect with a crowd, make jokes and still make key points, his comfortablness and fluency when he talks, and his abilility to excited a crowd. It was a terrific turn-out too, and a lot of college students really rooting him on. Clinton, I believe, has been the most likeable present in a very long time. Most people I talk to my age say he's the best president of their time--of course, there isn't too long of a list to choose from, but still, Clinton has charisma. Favorite quote from the speech: "Stop and think is not the same as cut and run."
And now to transition...
Thursday afternoons are something to really look forward to for me. It's practically the end of my week. Friday all I had is a desk shift and French and I never mind going to French class (unless we have a test of course). Anyway, I was feeling very creative and antsy tonight. I tried doing some slight re-arranging in my room because I have a dead corner (amazing, right? To have a dead corner in a college dorm room? But I do!). Well I couldn't fix it--need more furniture I guess. So I made a montage on my bedroom door instead. Taped up some pictures I've had stacked on a shelf, some fortune slips from Panda Express, a few picture clippings from magazines, and the rest has yet to be completed. Digging for more, I went tossing through my drawers and found a stack of birthday cards from my 20th. I don't know if this is true for many people, but when I open a card, usually the last thing I notice is what the card actually says. What I really look at is how it is addressed and how it is signed. For example, the card from my parent's says "To our beautiful Jill". Kris has Jillie, Grandpa wrote Jilly. And my aunt, uncle, and cousins wrote Jilly Bean. My grandma wrote Jill and dad got a seperate card that says "To my bunnie" (the card also has a picture of a bunny on the front; I know why he picked it). I've always been my daddy's bunny. And for the closing, well, that's something very special. Grandpa put both him and gram. A birthday card from grandparents really isn't the same with only one name. Tomorrow is, was, grandma's birthday. Kind of odd that I would come across the cards I guess. Seeing the two names brought a tear to my eye when I first opened the card.
And dad...well, I know I've said it before but I'll say it again; He's shown more affection towards me now that I'm gone than I think he ever really did while I was living at home. I don't know if it's just that he misses me, or realizes I've grown up or what. He signed his own name to my parent's card and added a long row of x's and o's. He's something else. Painting my bathroom this week. Said the toilet room is almost lime green, but calming down. He's looking for another color for the rest of the bathroom. Asked if I was coming home this weekend.
No, I told him. I'm on duty.
The whole weekend?
Well, sort of. I get off Sunday at 5. Just as well though, no hurry for you to finish the bathroom.
Why? I thought you liked construction? You always did?
Yeah, well, you kind of burnt me out when it comes to living with it...Do you and mom want to meet me for dinner that night? I don't really want to drive all the way up there...
Yeah, maybe. We'll think about it.
Dad thought it was really neat that I got to see President Clinton speak. He likes Clinton. Most of my family does.
I guess this whole day has been a crazy montage.
