6:03 Late Sunday Evening (1 November 2009)
Pick a Card, Any Card...except that one
Ugh, my dad decided to buy a plane ticket for Grandma to watch me graduate. Which means that I have to graduate officially at a stupid lengthy impersonal ceremony in a ridiculous looking gown. Oh well.
We had a wee get together for All Hallow's Eve last night. I was going to be Sailor Moon but didn't finish my costume in time. Then i was going to be a Geisha but my Chinese dress is neither Japanese nor large enough to fit me and my American Woman hips...Also I'm extremely Caucasian. So then I was what I was last year and the year before that - a purple octopus. Whoo! It's a really cute costume but I lost the armbands and so it didn't look quite as good as it could have. oh well. Caleb was a very dashing Tuxedo Mask.
I started the party officially at 8, expecting to have trick or treaters from 5 pm until about 8, cleaned the majority of my house, including every room except the kitchen which Caleb cleaned; went shopping for foodstuffs and decorations (everything is 50% off on Halloween, you just have to be willing to pick through the crap that's leftover from everyone else having already picked through)
So we installed a "graveyard" and jack-o-lanterns and a giant spider web and bloody window sticker hands and wrapped white spiderweb cotton around the bannister and actually decorated our yard. This is all because I was told that living in a high density area can flock hundreds of trick or treating children and i didn't want to look bad to the costumed kids demanding candies off of me.
We had, tops, 30 trick or treaters.
I was extremely disappointed.
But the party was alright except one of my friends, who can be a bit demanding, decided that parties aren't for sitting around and talking, they're for playing card games. And basically demanded that everyone play games. Again, it was alright but it's weird to have someone bossing you around at your own party. also I think it would have been more fun to wander around and partake of random conversations, eat food, and drink beverages, but I guess that isn't so.
Oh well, at least Halloween is done with now for another year, giving me a year to finish my Sailor Moon costume and a year to accumulate more decorative goodies because even if the trick-or-treaters won't enjoy it, I will.
now, as it is officially november 1st, I expect all shops to be playing full blast Christmas Music for the rest of the year.
Also: 42 days until I have a degree in soil science! and 53 days until we leave for Christchurch!!!!
I lub you! I'm so glad I got to see you this weekend!
~Love, me~
