What I Miss Most
You squint your eyes shut
And pinch your lips together
Your slumped posture
Hunches over even more
As you lean back in your chair
Red streams in your face
Not just your cheeks
Almost without fail
One or both of your knees
Slowly rises as you lean back
Still not making a sound
Or showing any sign of breath
Whenever you think it was dumb or lame
Which is almost all the time
You attempt to roll your eyes
And shake your head
While your face is red
You look like you're holding your breath
And when you can't control yourself
Your hands rise to your forhead
As your knees climb there too
Until you are in the fetal position
There are those moments when
You've done everything else, gave up
Folded your arms and buried your head
In that moment, that moment
When you open your eyes
And your lips part
While your face is still red
And your slouched body twitches
When you finally show sign of life
When you look like a little kid again
That's what I miss most about you
Your laughter
