September 6, 2008 Saturday 4pm Saturday. A day to just sit and do nothing all day. I actually slept until noon. I went down for breakfast and then watched a movie. Oceans 13. Soon after I started the movie Jed and his boys showed up at the house to fix up the basement. After the movie Grandma and Renee showed up. I didn't want to ...be seen I guess and just enjoy my laziness so I turned on another movie "Always". At 4p.m. I went downstairs finally cuz I was hungry. Everyone was in the kitchen and stared at me when I came down. Grandma says surprised, "Oh, you're here. When did you come back?" "...uh... I never left" "Well...where's your car?" "It...should be where I left it..." I walked over to the window... "Well, we didn't know you were here b/c we thought you'd gone somewhere...b/c your car is gone" Uh....um...my car...has disappeared.... shiiiiiiiiittttt ____________________________________________________ Update: Friday Sept 12 After looking out the window and seeing my car ...not where I left it last night... I turned around to Grandma who asks "Do you want a cheese sandwich?" Uh.... Grandma says she saw the car when she left this morning for work around 6 or 7am. Jed said he didn't see the car when he came at noon. So it disappeared in the morning/daylight between 6am and noon. Which means I was in the house all day while my car was being stolen!!! GaH! I felt..stupid. I was slightly still in shock that my car was gone. I didn't have..emotion at all really. Jed asked if someone really took my car. Well Jed, when you wake up and your car is gone what is one to think? It just walked away?! Yes, Jed I believe it was stolen. Everyone asked, mainly joking, if I had locked the car or left the keys in it. I wondered if it had slipped out of gear and ...rolled away and someone just rolled it home. Basically I stood on porch with my keys in one hand and my cheese sandwich in the other staring at the spot where my car used to be. Then I call Dad. "um... I have a problem..." "What is your problem?" "my car....kinda..disappeared. its not parked where I left it last night" *muffled laughter on his end* "Yup.... you have a problem" He helped remind me of what kinds of stuff I need to tell the cops. I didn't have the license plate number and was worried about that. But he reminded of pictures or anything that had the car in it. I found the pictures I took of my car (who knows why) and got the license number from there. Grandma reminded me to call insurance. I decided I'd tell the owner of the car also. Texting Dustin: "So um... my car..disappeared.... I hope you have the title to it" I didn't call the actual 911 cuz I just feel stupid with all the neighbors watching an' stuff. Especially those Mexicans across the street who are having a party of some kind today. I blame them for my missing car by the way. I called and said "calling to report a stolen car" and the response was "oh I'm sorry to hear that". It didnt really hit me that...what I was saying was a ...sad thing. It was just fact to me at the time. They got my name, addy, and from the license got all my car info. Then he said he'd have a cop call me in second. While I waited for the cop to call me I got a phone call. It was Dallin. Apparently he was laughing prior to calling me....as his wife in the background was telling him to stop laughing before I answered. "Hey sis I heard what happened to yer car!" "Shut up Dal! Yer next!" I told him how it disappeared on me while I was at the house and waking up to no car. He laughed. He said at least I didn't lose much. Gee, thanks for the sympathy Dal. I told him I was waiting for the cop so if I hung up on him thas why. He mentioned how he wasn't going to visit SLC anymore. Enough laughing at me - so I answered the cop who was on call waiting. This cop basically gave me my car info back to me. I didnt even know that much about the car. But sure the '84 Honda Prelude that sounds familiar. He started asking me questions to help find the car I guess. "Is there anything unique about your car that will help us find it?" "Uh.... there is lots of rust on it... rusted out gas tank. The gas tank door is like permanently open... um.. I had a Tinkerbell coverseat..." Who wants a Tinkerbell coverseat? What do they want with Tinkerbell? What kind of theives are these...boys? I had nothing on the mirror... I didnt have any stickers on it... How do you describe a car thats on the verge of dying as unique? I was thinking "doesn't the age of the car say how unique it is?" Then he asked: "Is there anything personal belongings that you lost in the car?" "Uh... no, I don't put anything personal in that thing..." I leave that car exactly the way I'd want it to be if it got stolen. Empty. It's like I expect it to be stolen each time I leave it. The most personal thing I have in there is my insurance info and my man-made "AC" (two squirt water bottles). Now, you must understand this was slightly entertaining questions that made me kinda chuckle. By the third question, I couldn't help it, I had to giggle. He asked: "Is there anything of value in your car?" .giggle. "Any CD's or credit cards, mail or anything? A radio? Sound system? etc" I was still laughing when he said radio. I thought "Yeah, sure, I have a radio its the oldest damn thing this side of the Mississippi" I never thought about CDs...b/c I dont have a CD playa! Everything I put in the car comes out when I leave the car. I think by then he got the point that this was a piece of junk car. He called it a "point A to B car". He said he would send out the report and when they find it they'd call me on two different numbers to have me come get the car within 15-30 minutes so a cop could release it to me otherwise it'd be towed. Then he mentioned the report was going out to every cop in UT... so if my car turns up in St. George - I have 15-30 minutes to get it? I certainly had enough gas in it. ...How does that work? Second of all... how do they expect one to come get their car when...they don't have a car anymore?!?!?! He ended the convo with "Have a better day" like he's done this WAY too many times. Then I called insurance and went through all those loop holes... The initial reaction "I'm sorry to hear that" blah blah. They told me I only had liability and that didn't cover squat. I needed comprehensive insurance. They always ended their convo with "Is there anything else I could do for you?" I got annoyed by the second or third time I got asked that... "Yeah, sure, if you could find my car that'd be lovely!" I called me Mum after that. Is she gonna laugh at me too? I don't know what Dustins reaction was. Then I called Dad to 'update' him on what the intelligent cops said. woowoo. He wondered if people would really do that - just come take yer car in yer yard or driveway in the daylight. He became angry as...I explained...yes, apparently they do steal like that. He is from the bubble of Cache Valley and doesn't lock his house or cars. He doesn't know how he'd even be able to lock his house if he had to. He doesn't know how he'd protect all his property from everyone. He doesn't know how we do it. (Apparently..we don't) He became a little too ...angry with this convo so we ended it. Well, I don't think I'll ever see Tink again. Whoever took it just made a quick buck with scrap metal or something. I wonder how I'll make it to see Natalies baby! I survived without a car before, I can do it again, right? Just long enough that I'd get attached to it. At least I had it for the summer. Put the keys in my purse, just in case. Well, I didn't lose much, eh?
