Yesterday Evan called me to tell me he got a job interview for today at 11:30am. Apparently they found his resume on jobs.utah.gov and called him for an interview. His UT jobs account is active, has been for a month or two since he thought it'd be a good idea to job hunt so he could leave his current unhappy job. He was surprised and excited. I was happy for him. Hopefully it will meet his income requirements and it'll be funner for him. He likes managing ppl anyways so I hope it works out. That day he deposited his paycheck, went home to cut his hair and look more professional for an interview and went to his guitar class.
Today he came into my office around 10:45-11am and I was surprised. His interview wasn't til 11:30 and I was out of the way for him to come see me kinda and it wasn't lunch time... I like his surprise visits tho.
Turns out they had a massive lay off today and he was part of it. Brought them in one at a time and laid them off, escorted them to their desk to get their belongings and walked them out the door. All prolly within 5 minutes or something. Freaky. It almost seems like it was everyone in the office that time. I guess he knew it was coming cuz he started job hunting a bit ago, but it still shocks ya. He was there almost 2 years. I wonder how many ppl walked around that office knowing that their peers would be fired or laid off within the next week or so. They all sitting there predicting who is gonna be next this morning, wondering, waiting. Its almost like a massive slaughter. He still has child support, car, insurances, phone, and his apartment to pay for. Getting laid off in the fall is a sucky time for landscapers to look for jobs.
So now he's off to an interview for a job that he almost has to take if offered now otherwise he'll be filing for unemployment morrow. Crazy how that worked out. An interview the day he gets laid off. An interview like an HOUR after he got laid off? Oh, I hope this works. I hope theres better people and companies out there. I hope he's gonna be okay.
