1 Dead, 1 Injured In Scooter Crash In SLC "A teenager is dead and another critically injured after the pair was knocked off a scooter they were riding on and run over by an oncoming van. The fatal accident happened Saturday near 900 West 500 South in Salt Lake City. “According to witnesses the motor scooter may not have stopped at the intersection. It entered into the intersection and apparently struck the side of a southbound vehicle,” said a Salt Lake City Police Officer. The crash bumped the boys off the scooter and they fell into the road where they were hit by a van. Neither boy was wearing a helmet. A 13-year-old died at the scene. His 16-year-old friend was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The boys lived the area and many neighbors gathered at the scene when they heard about the crash." Mindy and I missed this accident literally by minutes. We were driving home from swimming. This is basically right out in front of Mindys house. So again, our neighborhood (900 west) is on the news for some more wonderful news. We saw the citizens trying to stop the bleeding of the 13 yr old and some people checking to see if the 16yr old was alive laying there. We saw the scooter they were on all mangled in the road. We saw the kids shoes scattered on the road. We saw that neither of them had helmets. We heard that the van dragged the kid a little ways and figgered with no helmet his head was prolly split open. We saw the ambulance come and take the 16 yr old. We watched the EMTs check the 13 yr old and cover the body with a white sheet. We heard the hysterical cries of the family, neighbors and friends across the street. We witnessed the last moments of someones life. One day just going down the road, not even a second thought of death, and moments later..... It could happen to you. Drive safe.
