Listening to: Green Day - Burn Out
Feeling: miffed

The other day I went to an activity and we attempted to learn about money stuffs. The lady kept using foreign words like "budget", "checks", "deposit slips", "statements" and "registrar". I don't know, some weird things that have to do with pencil and papers when spending money. Our vocabulary consisted of "service fees", "overdraft fee", "credit card", and "available balance". At one point she suggested to stop using your debit card (and use cash) and I thought "I did stop using my debit card. I started using my credit card instead." haha. Oh dear. It was kind of funny how hopeless we were about the subject. It was almost annoying that she kept talking to us as if we understood her vocabulary and implied those things in our lives. Like we use that stuff. Who uses a registrar? I've seen one before! Some of us didn't even know how to fill out a deposit slip. Direct deposit, hello? We only write one check a month for rent. It was interesting, the bunch of us, trying to figger out how to calculate and record in a registrar. We look up our transactions an' stuff online, we don't need to write it down. We are the generation of NOW.

In other news, I learned that my friend Sunni from Ralphs office/building has been deported to...where ever he came from. He reminds me of that foreign kid on That 70's Show, nobody knows where he came from... Anyways, Sunni is a BYU graduate (which is interesting b/c he is not religious), he is an Engineer of some kind and did business in downtown SLC (also interesting he chose to stay in a religious community), and makes a lot of money. He even taught girls soccer and did marathons and lived a very healthy and productive life. He has been here on Visa for many a year now and has been trying for the past 3 or 4 years to get a green card so I hear. He was trying when I worked there a year ago anyway.

Due to recent health issues with his parents, he wishes to go home and visit, but he can't come back without a green card. So he paid an attorney to hurry things along with the government and was promptly denied access to this country simply because he makes too much money. An educated, skilled, working, and tax paying man was kicked out of this country for being too successful, because it apparently should've been an American making that kind of money. Ridiculous. Even the honest immigrants are being punished. The land of opportunity. hmpf. Truly sad situation, deciding between family and his career/life in the US. So Sunni sold everything he owned (accumlated in his many years here) that he couldn't take on a plane and left the country to be with his ailing parents and shall never come back to this country or his career ever again. Never is a long time.

On a more happier note, I profusely thank Ben and Jerry for their genius idea of mixing chocolate ice cream with marshmellow and carmel, and special thanks to Ben for adding the fudge fish as well. You have saved many lives with this invention! mmm Chocolate ice cream and marshmellow together, genius!
