The two main headlines in the news today:
"Utah gay marriage ban overturned, court rules"
"Excommunicated Mormon activist says she has no plans to change"
This world is going to hell in handbasket, as the older folks would say.
There is something wrong with the world when the majority of the votes of the state can be overturned by one judge sitting on his throne.
There is something wrong with the world when people think they can tell God what to do and when to do it and feel they have no consequences for doing so.
Meanwhile, I made the mistake of attending the HOA meeting yesterday.
And ended up being nominated to be the President of the HOA.
I knew I shouldn't have gone to that meeting.
Curse Mother and her teaching us to be involved in the community, letting our voice be heard, using our voting rights, crap like that.
There are 14 owners, only 7 showed up for the meeting, 3 are moving this year, one is already the Treasurer, the new guy that just bought a place this month agreed to be the Vice President (cuz they dont do anything) and the last guy has been around for a long time and knows the place/history but refuses to participate. So that left everyone staring at me. They tried to get the Treasurer to be President, but he refused with his work schedule and anger management issues. I have the time, but lack of anger management issues and knowledge, but I guess that dont matter.
Apparently if we dont step up as little community we have to hire a company to manage the HOA and that gets way more expensive. On the plus side they said I dont have to pay HOA dues for two months. I just have to hear complaints. And boy do some of those couples have opinions, yet those couples are the ones that are leaving. The Treasurer is one of those with strong opinions, the only one who's not moving yet. Who knows what other picky ppl we'll have move in?
The Pres said he saw the paint on the backdoor frames looking bad. And the most opinionated couple went off about how bad theirs was. ...What? Who...who opens the back door, turns around, studies the paint on the door frame and then pays someone to paint it? Ain't nobody got time for that! I guess they are all getting a little nit picky as they are trying to sell their house. But seriously, some of these things I would never think of to complain about. But I'm sure they will be pointed out to me.
The weird thing, to me, about this meeting was they had a vote on whether we should have a gate set up so we are a private little community back here and everyone voted to have the get, but like 3 of those couples/owners are the ones leaving. Why are we putting up a gate for them really? I'm not really into the gate idea. I think it would be annoying. And when the thing breaks everyone is gonna be calling me, the new Prez. Oy vay. Why do they get to vote for this? Why don't we ask the new owners who buy this year? Whatever. But the gate will be installed before the old Pres leaves so I dont have to deal with installing it at least, just maintaining it.
But I suppose I'll bug the Vice Pres to help me out a bit. He's a handy man kind of guy. He just bought this place but he's working the next month or so to remodel it and fix it up by his own hands it looks like before he moves in. He's of course very tall, story of my life right now, apparently every guy I think is cute is like 6 foot something and I'm 5 foot nothing. But he's cute, curly hair, perfect teeth, wonder if he's married/has girlfriend. I asked what he did for a living; he joked and said he just got out of prison. *crickets* He said he "works with the police department". I'm not sure what that means. Is he a police officer? or what? Whatever. He says the gate will be good to discourage drug users/dealers to move in or be on the property. I'm guessing he's a narcotics officer of some type. Anywho... glad he offered to do something, as the rest of this little community does nothing.
So here I sit. The youngest owner and most inexperienced about anything and here I am going to pretend to know what I'm doing when these new people move in. I was in a little bit of shock for awhile there. I have so many questions. I should start writing these down before the Pres moves away. We will have to have a chat.
