I couldn't decide what to do this Saturday. My main problem was where do I travel? And then it turned into 'should I even travel?' and that seemed like a weird concept because I have a car why shouldn't I travel? Whats the problem? I decided to go to the library and get some books for a few days at work while the boss is gone. Then I decided to go to Wally World for some reason, I wanted to buy something to somehow boost my ...confusion on what to do with my day...? Well on the way out of the parking lot I noticed I was driving....lopsided. Then I remembered how hard my car tugged to the left when I was trying to turn right. So I pulled over and saw a fairly flat drivers side tire. Okay a really flat one. Before it was the back left tire that just lost some air around Christmas and after I put air in it it was just fine. But this, this was a flat tire.
I decided to try and drive to the Chevron to fill it back up with air. So I lugged lopsided down a couple blocks and I started to put air in it. Ya know that sssss sound you get when you first put the air compressor thing on the tire stem? Ya know letting the air out a bit before you can fully put the thing on to get air into it? I finally got it on the stem right so it didnt ssss and put air in it, and then I pulled it off a few seconds later and my tire was still 'sssssss'. Hmmm, thas not good. So I started to run my hands around the tire where the ssss was coming from, ya know with the air I -just- put in it. I felt this rough spot so I put my hand over it and the ssssss stopped. I took my hand off and the ssss started again. *sigh and hangs head* I busted the -outside- of my tire which means replacing the whole tire, which means prolly replacing at least one other tire, which means I cant avoid replacing my crappy tires any longer. At least if you get a hole on the inside of your tire they can usually patch those up, but this was a crack from wear and tear.
So I looked up and low and behold, right next to the Chevron was a Discount Tire store. Conveient. Really. Drove over to the next parking lot and walked away from my ssssss car. I went in and stated "I have a hole in my tire. Actually its on the outside of the tire. ... I need a new tire." He said lets go take a look. He asked if I had bought my tires at their store. I said no...I've never bought tires. You can see his brain going "well I hope someone has changed them....in the past few years..." (esp after he found out the mileage) He heard the ssssss sound and attempted to put his hand over it like I did, but its on the inside of the tire and prolly closer to the ground. Then he asked the mileage which is 150,000. hehe prolly has something to do with the hole in da tire eh? And the fact that I've never changed the tires so I dont know when the last time they were changed.
Well I asked him to check the other tires with his lil meter thing to determine what other tires to replace. He went to the next one said that one was barely yellow, would barely pass inspection, the next one was closer to the red and prolly wouldnt pass inspection, and got to the last one and there was absolutely no tread, nothing to even measure with his lil meter, a no go on inspection. Which is weird cuz I just had my inspection two months ago. Did they not notice? Not care? Did they just want my money? Did they measure the only fairly decent one I had? You could just see the tires cracking in the cold weather. Really a sad sight. So I said screw it and said I'd buy all four tires. He looked at me and said "Yup, you've never bought tires before..."
He showed me the cheapest tires all the way up to the most expensive. I chose the middle expense. He said they'd last 85,000 miles, ha, right, whatever. Does anyone actually use their tires as long as they are 'supposed' to? Anyway, they cost $461. That was kind of a good deal, maybe a bit more expensive than normal, but I did choose the better seasonal tires. $76 bucks a pop. plus all those fees and taxes. I invested in my lil Jack and I expect him to last longer. He cant break up with me! It prolly would've been nice to shop around for prices before purchasing, but seeing as it was 4:30pm and they close at 5pm, and if I want to go to Gmas or church morrow I need new tires. I could use the spare, but it seems like unnecessary hard labor when I need new tires anyway ya know? A tire thats currently leaking air, one that would barely pass the inspection, one that would fail, and the other that doesnt even have a chance. How sad is that.
But I think Jack likes it. Its nice to not drive lopsided, its nice to have some tread now, prolly might help the whole spinning out deal in the winter. I actually have to stop my car it doesnt just trug to a stop on its own. I can even accelerate ...easier... It runs so smooth. I wonder when the air started leaking and how long I was driving like that. When it was the back tire it wasn't as easy to notice, but when its the drivers side tire you...tend to notice how...fat you are.
Apparently I wasnt supposed to travel anywhere for awhile. No wonder there was confusion. I think its interesting about my money situation also. The holidays messed me up on my budgeting. I usually split my bills between the two checks I get during the month, but this month I ended up paying all my bills in my first check....which left me to wonder what to use the next check for and how the heck did one check cover all my bills at the first of the month? Well, now I know. About the next check bit. I'm not sure I'll ever know how I paid all my bills and normally that would bug me to all ends and I would totally hash out my finances to find out why, but for some reason something tells me that its not important. Someones watching out for me, fo' shure, thas all I need to know.
